TriathlonScotland membership - new rules

April 9th, 2007

“TriathlonScotland” is the governing body of the sport in Scotland and along with “Triathlon England” and “Triathlon Wales” it is affiliated to the British Triathlon Federation (BTF).

New rules mean that every one who races in a “traithlonScotalnd” santioned race (which includes the Orkney Triathlons) will require to be a member of triathlonscotland. There are three ways in which you join (explained below) - it is also worth remembering that if you race regularly purchasing an additional “race license” will work out cheaper. Below are the new rules in detail (copied from the TriathlonScotland website - http://www.tri-scotland.org/membership.php

TRIATHLON SCOTLAND MEMBERSHIP RULES

Membership

In order to help us develop the sport further we now required everyone to be a member of triathlonscotland in orderto take part in any sanctioned events. This enables us to ensure we can provide support and information to everyone who takes part in events no matter how many you take part in. This will ensure we can continue to work with everyone involved in the sport and continue to grow triathlon and duathlon year on year. You will see that under 12 get free membership and under 16’s pay just £1, this will ensure that everyone who races in the Youth aquathlon series can now score points. So how do I join? There are 3 ways in which you can join:

1 - Join a club that is affiliated to triathlonscotland - Orkney Triathlon is an affiliated club and therefore is you join the club you will automatically become a member of traithlon Scotland.

2 - Enter an event and by doing so, you will find membership is included as part of the day license (Insurance) costs which are part of the event entry fees. Once you are sure that you will do more events (and why wouldn’t you?) then you may be better off purchasing a race license. If you choose not to purchase a race license then you will have to pay for a day license for every event you race.

3 - Join online or by post direct with triathlonscotland.

Please note that every one who races in each event will be required to pay for a day license or alternatively purchase a race license for the season. This ensures that the correct insurance cover is in place for everyone racing. There are additional benefits of purchasing a race license which are listed below.
